Vegas, Unscripted: A Sober Weekend That Didn’t Need a Drink

We got back from Vegas last week — the city of lights, late nights, and bottomless drinks. And guess what?

We didn’t drink a drop.
And we didn’t miss it for a second.

Kevin and I spent a full weekend soaking in all the city had to offer:

We walked hand-in-hand down the Strip, lounged poolside in the sun, gambled a bit and I danced my heart out at the Backstreet Boys concert (because obviously). And not once did the thought cross our minds that it would be better with a drink in hand. Not once did we crave that old rush or feel like something was missing.

This is what we call neutrality.

Not fighting alcohol.
Not romanticizing it.
Just... not needing it. At all.

There was a time — for both of us — when alcohol filled the holes we didn’t know how to face. It numbed pain we didn’t know how to name. It gave us false courage and a temporary sense of escape. But Vegas showed us how far we’ve come. Not in a white-knuckled, “look what we resisted” kind of way. In a “look what we didn’t even think about” kind of way.

We’re no longer looking for adrenaline in things that leave us feeling hollow.
We’re not chasing escape, because we’ve built a life we don’t want to escape from.
And we’re not hiding anymore…..from each other, from God, or from ourselves.

That freedom?
It’s better than any buzz.

Vegas was just another reminder that life doesn’t have to be scripted by someone else’s expectations. Our joy isn’t tied to a drink, a party, or a high. We’ve found connection, peace, and presence in the quietest moments…..and in the loudest concerts.

We walked into Vegas knowing who we are.
We walked out with even more gratitude for this life we get to live — fully awake, fully free, and fully unscripted.
